PLAN OF ACTION
"Renewing right thinking in the hearts of inmates---Bringing Light to a Dark Room"
The problems of drugs, alcohol, violence and anger are the direct result of a deeper problem most inmates and others face today. The problems of lying, stealing, deception, lack of responsibility, immorality, laziness, lack of commitment and failure to be accountable are identified in the religious world as "darkness". The darkness is a direct result of the prisoner's thinking and behavioral problems.
One of the familiar slogans of our day is, "If you can believe it, you can achieve it". The Christian view of this is in Proverbs 23:7, which says, "As a man thinks in his heart, so he is".
Developing a new way of thinking and a planned modification of behavior will begin prior to the release of the inmate. NEW LIFE BEHAVIOR NETWORK will assist the inmate in accomplishing the above mentioned goals by four plans:
PLAN 1:
Every inmate will be provided the opportunity to participate in the self-study support group. The NLB curriculum will provide the basis of instruction, allowing the inmates insight into all of their incarceration. The NLB curriculum requires the inmate to address self-issues and character defects with the application of Biblical instruction. Being "multi-dimensional", the NLB curriculum will reveal the nature of the inmate's many behavioral problems. These are usually complex in nature and each one must be addressed in order for the inmate to restore his/her life in a way that's completely acceptable to society. Spiritual, physical, mental and emotional problems must be researched thoroughly and modified in order for a relapse of negative behavior not to take place.
PLAN 2:
During the NLB curriculum, the inmate will be observed and evaluated to determine the course of action he or she should consider upon release. At this time, the inmate's goals of behavioral modification will be established. Here, the inmate's resources and environment will be assessed and evaluated, allowing him to continue his behavior-modification plan of action. NLBN of OK strongly advises the inmate to complete the NLB 104-week curriculum and develop his bahavior-modification plans in coordination with NLBN support. This plan can serve as the inmate's commitment and pledged agreement with the court, and part of probation accountability.
PLAN 3:
The inmates that choose to participate in the NEW LIFE BEHAVIOR NETWORK will follow two primary paths upon release from incarceration, depending on their assessment and resource evaluation. There are some inmates who have no---or minimal---resources and, when released, must return to a negative living environment. After evaluation of the inmate, it will be determined whether he or she needs comprehensive behavioral assistance and requires housing in The Home of Hope. If selected, the inmate will commit to a minimum of 90 days of intense instruction. A structured daily routine with specific responsibilities will be required, beginning with listening to the "IN SEARCH OF THE LORD'S WAY" television program regularly. Employment will be provided either within the ministry or from an approved employer. A weekly housing and support fee of $50.00 will be required from each person. In addition, daily chores will be assigned. The transitional housing will have an administrator from NEW LIFE BEHAVIOR NETWORK of OK, Inc., on site during the late evening and early morning hours.
PLAN 4:
The problems that a father faces must be addressed initially for any restoration of the father to the family unit. By participation in the NLB curriculum, the format for re-entry into the family structure will be prepared. In order for him to complete successful recover, his continued attention to the NLB program is imperative. The stability of his "new self" will depend completely on his commitment in using the principles which he learns from NLB. In most cases, the spouse (and/or children) are co-addicted and suffer similar negative character traits, and also may have become "enablers". Their life issues must also be addressed through the family crisis counseling services already in place with NEW LIFE BEHAVIOR NETWORK.
